It is a legume with a perennial root system, and delicate-looking leaves . A real pretty violet colored pea flower that grows in clusters.
***The decorative seeds are often used as jewelry beads and in percussion instruments. The seed contains a toxic poison Abrin that is only harmful when swallowed if the seeds are broken, as they have a hard seed coat. Be careful around children and pets, just in case. A single seed can be fatal to an adult.
The plant is native to Indonesia.
