Not only is it a close relative to onion, but to garlic as well. The large white stems grow in girth as the leeks mature giving them green flat leaves. A staple in cuisine, leeks give a taste of light onion flavor to soups, stews, or even traditional English meat pies. This variety was bred to endure cold weather.
