Caroline Raspberry is a highly productive fall-bearing (primocane) raspberry known for its large berries, exceptional flavor, and vigorous growth. This standout variety produces rich, full-flavored red raspberries that are often described as more intense and complex than many standard fall raspberries. Caroline is especially valued for its strong yields, adaptability across a wide range of regions, and improved tolerance to root rot compared to varieties like Heritage. While it prefers moderate conditions and benefits from attentive watering in hot or dry climates, its overall performance and flavor make it a favorite among home gardeners and berry lovers alike.

Growing Information
🌱 Plant Type: Bare root raspberry (primocane / fall-bearing)
🌱 Hardiness Zones: 4–8
🌱 When to Plant: Early spring, as soon as soil can be worked
🌱 When to Harvest: Late summer through fall (timing varies by region; often earlier in warmer climates)
Cultivation Tips
• Soil requirements: Plant in well-drained, fertile soil rich in organic matter. Good drainage is essential, even though Caroline has better root rot tolerance than many varieties.
• Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade. In hotter climates, some afternoon shade can help protect plants from heat stress.
• Watering: Water regularly, especially during establishment and dry periods. Caroline is sensitive to drought, so consistent moisture and mulching are key to healthy growth and fruit production.
• Harvesting: Berries are ready when fully red and release easily from the plant. Larger berries make harvesting efficient and rewarding.
• Additional information: Space plants approximately 18–30 inches apart. Caroline fruits on first-year canes. Many growers cut canes to the ground in late winter for a single, abundant fall harvest.
