Our Story in Metter, Georgia
We had a dream of purchasing a small farm years ago. This long term plan God made possible in 2022. We purchased the meadows from a sweet couple that didn't really want to sell. However, due to health reasons as well as wanting to be closer to their grandchildren, they decided it was time. Her late father has also built their adorable greenhouse we named the Henry Melton Greenhouse. Our indoor growing building was originally designed and built to house Southern Soy Candle Company.
It started with a Rose...
At our final walk through, we shared smiles and shed tears with the Lytle's. We learned some of the history of the meadows as well as the stories of the many plants and trees. They had gotten married at the end of dock that branches out into the pond. It was obvious a love of land and family seeped from each acre.
In the Beginning
During the first summer months here, we captured and shared each bloom as it made its spectacular appearance with the former owner, Mrs. Lytle through text messages. As we had guests come to visit, our children make bouquets with the flowers that were blooming. Our vision of a small veggie farm was begging to transition.
I never have dreams at night...I love to daydream, but I rarely dream or perhaps I rarely remember what I dreamt. However, I started having dreams of a field of Dahlias that was relentless! Mind you, I used to have a brown thumb and couldn't keep a simple houseplant alive. I recall just a few years ago my friend Aubrey visiting our house in Statesboro and mentioning that she was surprised that all we had was silk plants. That has really stuck with me because I was raised around 6 foot tall gardens on the South Dakota plains that engulfed my 4 foot Grandma Sue. Even my Grandma Chris always had beautiful plants and flowers surrounding her.
As we made ourselves at home in the meadows, the most precious interactions with Mrs. Lytle came from an elegant red rose bush her late father had planted for her —until they could finally bring it home to their new property during her visit this past fall. Through these many communications, a love for sharing God’s beauty in the meadows was born. God's plans for our life began to unfold.
Proverbs Passion
I have a passion for being a Proverbs woman. Although I may fail everyday in this aspect, I thought my field to market would be vegetables. Only God knows the plans He has for us. To add to the absolute faith we have had for what we feel is God's vision, I have a form of Cervical Spina Bifida that was a late diagnosis, which affects all aspects of my daily life. Some days I have seizures or have to rest often or even weeks I am mostly bedridden. This is why we have 3 foot high raised beds.
Many close to me thought we were crazy for following this dream, but I believe in trying to make things more accessible, and I know God still has a plan for us. We are thankful for all of the help along the way. Our children are also learning about community, how to run a business, as well as helping with many aspects of our Farmette (for a fair wadge) as part of their homeschooling lessons.
We look forward to continuing to share the past and present with the Lytle's permission. We will be sharing more about the meadows as we learn more about the history and her stories.

Deep Water Hydroponics & Indoor Year-Round Local Flowers
If at first you don't succeed...
Since late October 2022, we have been experimenting with indoor agriculture Deep Water Hydroponics. Our hope is to provide year-round flowers for our local market that only a controlled environment can provide. We also use shallow aeroponics for many of our seed starts, providing the flowers with a favorable headstart, full of roots.
Throughout our experiment, we had several challenges, lost a few cuttings and had to start over several times. Staying the course, we have learned so many lessons and are thankful that we are finally harvesting many zinnias and have dahlias coming soon! We have doubled in our plant production and have dreams of expanding as we are able If it is His will.
Benefits of growing hydroponically:
- You can garden almost anywhere.
- Hydroponics uses less space.
- You can grow in any season.
- Hydroponic plants grow up to 50% faster.
- Larger harvest.
- Uses less water.
- Fewer pests.
We are thrilled to have the means, experience and opportunity to grow local flowers for a bride that wants fresh cut flowers in November for her bridesmaids to create their own bouquets, as well as bride that wants mid-summer wildflowers, early April!
Just because flowers aren't "in-season", doesn't mean you can't have your dream wedding... and we are here for it! As long as we have ample notice, we can grow many flowers in our Lytle Flower Shop in soil or in our deep water hydroponics tents.
If you are interested in growing hydroponics, we can help guide you as you get started. We also carry Bootstrap Farmer©️ hydroponics Dutch Buckets, Net Pods, Grow Lights and more.
